Using photography as a base for digital art can be very satisfying. The techniques range from direct filtration, to layer tracing, and even wholesale pixel replacement, repainting sections piece by piece. All of the techniques take time and training, as much, and maybe more than traditional brush based images. Digital will not replace traditional art, but it can provide additional insight on hue, value and contrast. But let’s face it, the medium is flatter than paper… unless you have a bump map and a 3D printer. Ha!
