I woke at 6:00 am, on a rocky shelf above the trail next to the lake. Even this early there was a lot of movement around me, fishermen, hikers and residents. Nothing to do but wait, and write a few letters.

I’ve been thinking about my trip north…it seems more like going west.

I’ve resupplied from my general delivery package and now feel fresh in my new socks and clean clothes. Desolation Wilderness is a very popular place for weekenders and is somewhat crowded even during the week. Most people are actively seeking to avoid each other. My plan is to cruise through the area quickly myself. Hopeful to sleep at Dick’s Pass.

Resting here, had lunch and even went for a little swim. It seems that around every bend there is another splash of ripstop nylon. Crowded. Should be much better after Dick’s Pass.
